My buddy got me a copy of The Burning Wheel GOLD Edition for Christmas. I was totally surprised because him and I have never talked about The Burning Wheel RPG before. Hell, the only thing I knew about it is that it was the engine for that RPG about the mice with swords.
He told me that he has given up on writing his own role playing game because the Burning Wheel is brilliant at doing everything he wants his game to do. High praise coming from my buddy!
Here's fun blog project: Instead of a review, I'll blog my impressions of the game as a I read the book for the very first time in semi-real time. (I'm thinking twice a week.) That way I can be corrected and yelled at in semi-real time as well. (Twice a week as well!)
I've gotten a Warhammer-esque vibe from the very, very, very cursory look I gave the book. The Burning Wheel seems like a perfect system to run a grim and gritty game in the vein of Warhammer. Darkhammer if we may! (Or perhaps Darkerhammer.) Of course, this first superfluous first impression may be proven wrong once I actually read the damn book.
I'll keep you guys informed!
I've been curious about this game and so I am very much looking forward to reading your impressions.
